"GDP measures everything in short, except that which makes life worth while"
Robert F. Kennedy, March 18, 1968
I came across this speech this morning and I can't not share this.
I never knew about this speech until now! I could tell you that I wasn't even born yet, so it's normal I don't know, however that's a lame excuse since you generally do know about a lot of things from before you were born.
Having said that, I believe it captures beautifully what GDP (Gross Domestic Product) or GNP (Gross National Product) really is: it measures things, lots of things and it can give an indication about our economy, it is not absolute by any means!
It does NOT represent all the underlying things we all value in life and which in the end also influence our economy and our daily lives much more than we give it credit for!
Have a listen and think about it! He was right in 1968 and it is still hugely accurate today!
